Oh, 'Roid Week. I am truly sorry to see you end. This week has been such a blast, both because of the outpouring of polaroid love in my RSS feed, and the fact that it's forced me to focus more on blogging.  I've needed this badly. 

So, here it is: my favourite polaroid (of mine).  I think the reason is probably obvious.  The carnival setting, and that sky--it's perfect.  This was taken on our day trip to El Tigre, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.  A part of me wishes we'd gone into the fair there, but in the end I think I love it more from the water, just colors, movement, and distant noise.

Just because the week is ending, doesn't mean that the polaroids are going anywhere!  The group pool will remain, with over 1,500 beautiful shots to peruse.  If you can resist getting lost in all that beauty, then I'm sorry, but you probably don't have a heart.  Just sayin'.

The next two Argentina polaroids come from the Buenos Aires botanical gardens, officially called (get ready for it) the Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires.  That's right.  As we were there in the country's late fall, there wasn't a great deal in bloom, but there were a ton of cats.  Really, it was just lovely to be able to wander through trees after being in the city for a week, and the architecture of the buildings and greenhouses was beautiful.

bleak and beautiful

Let's take a short break from looking at my polaroids so we can look at the gorgeous shots taken by other people.  I noticed as I was scrolling through the 'Roid Week pool, lots of interesting landscape shots.  The polaroid medium often adds a sort of faded bleakness to the shots, and I find the end results enchanting.  Here are some of my favs:

I highly recommend scrolling through the 'Roid Week pool for yourself.  There's some serious talent out there.

These were taken on another Buenos Aires morning jaunt. My dad would generally stay in the hotel, working and waiting for Casey to get there, while my Mom and I would get impatient, pick a place in the guidebook within walking distance, and head out. On this particular day, we checked out the Museo de la Ciudad.  For someone who loves ephemera, it was heaven.  The museo is all about the everyday life of the people of Buenos Aires, and is full of donated objects.  Well, I guess they received a ton of bicycles, as they resorted to unusual measures to display them.

We ended up in the Plaza de Mayo entirely by accident. The Plaza is a major place in Argentine history (read about it here), and this is the Cabildo, which was the main government building during Argentina's colonial period (check out this photo of it in 1867).

So there's your daily double dose of polaroids and Argentine history.  The 'Roid Week festivities will continue tomorrow!

down Florida

More 'Roid Week!  While we were in Buenos Aires, we stayed in the Plaza Hotel.  It's technically a Marriot, but the hotel has a long history.  We were right next to a big pedestrian road, and while we were waiting for my brother to get out of class, my Mom and I did some exploring down Florida and the surrounding area.  Here are some shots from those forays.

I know the HSBC sign is distracting, but if you look closely at the clock, it's ringed by the signs of the Zodiac.  I loved that clock.

I know that this is the Orly Hotel, but the internet addict in me was looking at it and seeing "O RLY???" It made me laugh like a loon in the middle of the street.

That's right, y'all! It's time again for that most blessed of events: 'Roid Week.  I am late to the party, of course (although oddly in real life I am often embarrassingly early to parties...sorry, friends!), but this time around I have a functioning scanner AND new polaroids to share!  I was going through a bag of photos (actually looking for photos to send in to this blog) and I came across the polaroids I took in Argentina.  Somehow they got lost in the insanity of travel and were never scanned.  Without further ado...

The first two shots are screwy, but I love them. For some reason, my camera spit out two shots instead of one when I tried to take this shot. So I ended up with these.

This was the view just outside my window in our hotel in Buenos Aires.  I supposedly had the room without the view, although I would beg to differ.

'Roid Week contines through Friday.  I'll be putting more of my Argentina polas up in the next few days, but in the meantime, I highly recommend checking out the group.  Lotsa talent there.
