red herring

Do you remember, like, a million years ago when I posted about swinging a crowbar over at 1st Stage? I can't believe I've been silent about this incredible theatre since then, but no longer.I saw their most recent show, Red Herring, tonight and MAN was it ever fantastic. This was the first show they've done which was not directed by Artistic Director (and my former teacher) Mark Krikstan, but rather by Jessica Lefkow. Based on tonight's performance, she is definitely a name to keep an eye on. The Washington Post agrees, in an article which I have to say is spot-on in its comments. This was truly a great show.I wish now that I'd seen this earlier, as the two performances tomorrow are the only remaining in this show's run, but this group never rests for long.I've said it before, but this bears repeating: if you live in the D.C. Metro area, 1st Stage Theatre is one to watch.

1st Stage

This is just a quick post of congrats to the 1st Stage crew--they have obtained their final permit and begin construction next week! It has been a interminable and frustrating wait for them, I know, and I am beyond thrilled that it's come through!

I've mentioned it before, but 1st Stage is a theatre being started by my former drama coach and a bunch of other former students of his. It will be the first professional theatre in our area. We're very near Washington, D.C., but our little patch of suburbia has become very urban--and populated! So now we'll have some culture of our own!

They're far from the end of the road, but if you're interested in learning more about the theatre (or interested in contributing in any way), you can visit their website, blog, or simply ask me!

Anyways, CONGRATULATIONS 1ST STAGE! Let the magic begin.

It's good.

My aforementioned friend Peter has a new post up at the theatre's blog. In it he makes some optimistic predictions for the future of theatre:

In five years TV might be merely part of your internet experience... and that "internet experience" will probably be coming through your portable phone/computer/salad-shooter.

All the while, what happens to Theater?

It's good.
Did I mention that the mutual friend starting up this theatre is our former high school drama coach? And that he's really, really good? If you're in the Washington D.C./Northern Virginia area, keep an eye out for 1st Stage.
