style idol: nancy drew

Nancy Drew in the 1950s
nancy 50s/60s
Meet 1950s Nancy.  There were lots of flouncy dresses, cardigans, and sensible heels.  Nancy's terrier Togo also played a role in many of her adventures, and here he's played by Ditto (who's a Jack Russel Terrier up for adoption in Maryland, if you're interested!).  Although Nancy was primarily portrayed as a blond in the early editions (her hair is described as "titian"), by the 50s and 60s, she was fully a redhead.
By the end of the 1940s, Nancy's blue "roadster" had become a convertible (like this 1958 Buick), and would remain as such in every book I read, anyway.

I love this. Who doesn't want to be a girl detective with a killer wardrobe?

Yes! Fortunately Carson Drew was a well-situated lawyer, and even in tiny River Heights Nancy could afford pretty much whatever she wanted. That's my excuse, anyway.
