I'm so behind on the Snails and Whales updates that I'm not even going to try to catch up. Here are a few short, non-linky updates:
- We found a swimming hole, and life was good
- I spent 5 days at my aunt's house at the beach, and it felt like coming home. I couldn't bring Vista because there were already 5 dogs there. While there, my borrowed car broke down and I had to drive the Beast (my dad's Suburban) home.
- Yesterday I was stung by a bee and now my left thumb is so swollen that I can't use it.
- This morning Vista chased a cat across a street and up a tree. I've never seen a cat run up a tree before.
- I'm hooked on the new Syfy show Haven and the older BBC show Primeval
- The above photo of Marsh's Light in Manteo might be the only thing keeping me sane
As always, there's more from my life over at Snails and Whales. This weekend I'm headed home for a wedding, and goodness only know what posts will come from that.

Here's what you might have missed if you're not following Snails and Whales:
An Introduction to the Creek Beneath My Bedroom
A Love Letter to a Hardware Store

snails and whales and goodbyes
If you haven't subscribed to Snails and Whales, here is what you've missed so far:
An Introduction
A Farewell Cookout
A Mother's Day Note
and
A Slightly Panicked Summary of My Pre-Service Orientation
Tomorrow my life changes. For the better, I hope. My plan is to continue with doors and other geeky Have Degree, Will Travel posts, but I cannot guarantee anything until I get there and figure out the internet situation. I went through my Google Reader with a machete this evening, and my goodness but I miss you already, internet. Spare a thought for me and my mountain living this week, would you? I'll see you on the other side.

snails and whales
Since today begins my 2 week mad packing period, after which I shall ride off into the mountains, it seemed appropriate the announce the new blog. It's called "Snails and Whales," and don't even ask me how the name came about, I couldn't begin to tell you. Anyway, there it is. I'm still feeling my way around it, how it's going to work and how it will relate to this lovely place. If you're interested in reading about my new experiences in West Virginia, feel free to check it out! I'll probably do a little referring between the two blogs, but there won't be any actual cross-posting.
Ideally, the doors and such will still be showing up over here, although that will very much depend on my internet access once I get out there. We'll see!
The header photo (shown here), is a stock photo by Odyar, with processing and text by me.
Have a great weekend, y'all. I'll be spending today making burgers and hushpuppies in preparation for a farewell cookout tonight--hooray!
