guilty pleasures

It's been awhile since I've made a list.  I'm calling this a list of guilty pleasures, but I'm not gonna lie.  I am pretty shameless in my love of...well, everything that I love, so there's not a lot of guilt here.

Maybe "awesome things" would be a better title?  Oh well, it's too late, I've committed.

Guilty Pleasures
- Zebra Cakes (apparently I am not alone in this)
- ThisIsNotPorn.net (see above photo for proof of awesome)
- Curbed.com's House of the Day
- Sandra Schwab's gothic romances
- Every single list or review on Pajiba
- Board games
- Pickle chips
- The Stuff You Missed In History Class podcast
- Video games based on Agatha Christie and Nancy Drew books

So much joy in such a little list.

how to be single on valentine's day (or the day before)

Step 1: Get hungry.
Step 2: Decide to whip up the world's best pizza dough.
Step 3: Not so fast, dude.  You gotta let that stuff rise for an hour.  Check your e-mail, play some solitaire.
Step 4: Take enough dough for a small pizza, refrigerate (or freeze) the rest.
Step 5: Roll out dough.  Realize that--heeeeey--the dough is vaguely heart-shaped.  With a pinch or two, it could be a pretty respectable heart.
Step 6: Go with it.
Step 7: Add sauce.
Step 8: Place your toppings randomly, because you're a grown woman, damnit, and just because your pizza is shaped like a heart does NOT mean it needs to have a face.
Step 9: Glare at the jar of olives.  Stand your ground.
Step 10: Cave.  You were raised by a preschool teacher, for pete's sake, and if you want to give your pizza a face, then BY GOD your pizza can have a face.
Step 11: Go nuts.
Step 12: Bake at 400 degrees for 10 or more minutes.  Eyeball it.
Step 13: Remove pizza from oven.  Realize you have no bloody clue how you're going to slice the thing.
Step 14: Improvise.  Enjoy.  Think about the cute socks you're going to get tomorrow from your mother, The Cutest Woman On Earth.  Wonder if, somewhere out there, people are receiving items other than socks for Valentine's Day.  Laugh.  Because, really.  What's better than socks?

obsessed

I have a bad habit. Well, I have many, but this post is specifically about one. When I get interested in something, really interested, I tend to basically get obsessed. For example: over the summer, I read a book by Karen Rose and loved it so much that I have since read every book she's ever written. And reread many of them, as well.

Here are the things I'm obsessing over right now:

Fringe - I. Love. This. Show.  I started watched the current season (its second), then went back and rented the first season on DVD.  In less than a week, I caught myself up and now that I'm done, I miss it.  Olivia Dunham is pretty much my favourite character on television right now.

Tozo, the Public Servant - I discovered this comic last night, and I immediately read all of it.  I love the art, the futuristic setting with its spattering of history (especially the art nouveau and art deco elements), and the straight-forward good guy main character.

"Through the Looking Glass" necklace - Made by blugrn design, I saw a couple of different versions of this necklace (which incorporates a vintage optical lens) at the DC Craft Mafia's Holiday Heist at The Soundry on Saturday.  I circled around and came back to it a few times, but in the end decided to focus on buying for others.  Needless to say, I have not stopped thinking about it since.
