piece of americana

If Mary Ellen Mark had been at my prom, I would have liked it 10X more. Traveling around the country with her 600 pound Polaroid camera in tow (it prints 20x24 inch shots), Mark's 3-year project is simply called "Prom." Charlottesville High School, in southern VA, is 7th on her list of 12 schools to visit. Story from the Post.

"'Prom is a slice of Americana for me,' Mark said. 'You learn about a culture and how different racial groups bring their own style to prom.'"

For any interested Virginians, Mark will speak at 7 p.m. June 12 at the Paramount Theater, 215 E. Main St., Charlottesville.
